What boots to buy for your needs?

The »Outdoors« today covers everything from leisure time and travel, to hiking and walking, to long trekking trips and the broad spectrum that is mountaineering. Alfons Meindl startet classifying his boots into a series of categories, A–D, in 1976. The aim of this classification is to ensure that you get the right boot for your needs. This system has been refined over the years and a number of intermediary categories have been introduced.

In this table, you will find an overview of each type of terrain. Please note that the pictures are used to symbolise the different categories. There are a couple of points that one should always bear in mind when selecting boots:

/!\

if in doubt use a sturdier boot as it will cover a wider range of uses

/!\

if you frequently walk in wet areas or you don´t have the opportunity to dry your boots overnight then chose a GORE-TEX® lined model
