High-tech for your feet
The GORE-TEX® membrane is the heart of GORE-TEX® products. It contains over 1.4 billion microscopic pores per square cm. These pores are 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet but 700 times larger than a water vapour molecule. This makes the GORE-TEX® membrane completely waterproof for water from the outside, while allowing perspiration to escape from the inside.

Footwear with GORE-TEX® Insulated Comfort technology
Footwear with GORE-TEX® Insulated Comfort technology is designed for use in rain, snow and cold weather. It is durably waterproof, highly breathable and equipped with an appropriate layer of insulation for the intended use. All components, the insulation and the shoe construction itself, are geared towards maximum performance and subjected to regular quality inspections.
Product Testing
Every new Footwear prototype with GORE-TEX® technology is put through its paces in rigorous tests in the Gore testing labs. Not only is the style tested, but the entire system of outer material, insulation, membrane and lining has to prove its excellence under the toughest conditions. Only when a shoe fulfills the high quality and performance standards of GORE-TEX® products, is it cleared for production.

To maintain their performance footwear with GORE-TEX® technology need to be regularly and properly cared for.
Dirt Removal
To clean leather shoes/boots use a brush and luke warm water. For textile shoes/boots use a sponge.
Care products
No care product can harm the GORE-TEX® membrane. However, fat or oily products such as greasy creams, leather oils or siliconbased products inhibit the breathability of the whole shoe. Any water based product will clean the upper whilst not impairing the breathability.
Waterproofing
Waterproofing is not necessary for the GORE-TEX® membrane, however applying waterproofing or water repellency to the shoe/boot upper can help with the following:
The right socks
To achieve optimal climate comfort it is really important to choose the best sock for the intended end use.
The function of the GORE-TEX® membrane is not affected by the socks worn with the shoe, however, wearing the correct sock can have a significantly positive impact on the perceived climate comfort.
Look for the right mix of materials:
100% cotton will absorb a lot of moisture and release it only very slowly. The moisture remains next to your feet and your feet start to feel cold. That is why a mix of high quality wool (e.g. Merino) and synthetic fibres (e.g. polyester, polyamide) is best.
